Uni starts on Monday! (and other fresh new stuff)

My summer of farting around is about to come crashing down on a fresh new semester of full-time study. And full-time work. Looking at my course materials, I’m starting to regret the full-time study thing. Assignments, presentations, essays that require references to six (6, VI) textbooks. For serious, guys? :(

But we’ll see how it goes. I’d feel quite proud if I could do this. The arrogant, achievement-hungry part of me believes one can survive most things if one is disciplined and stubborn enough. And has enough energy drinks on hand.

Speaking of fresh new stuff, I got a haircut today. I’d forgotten how much I like having short, messy hair. My mum’s always told me it suits, but it’s hard to resist the allure of long, dramatic tresses. I’m quite jealous of the girls I know who can pull off the long-haired look, while I look like a potato with a wig. :(

Bye bye, hard drive

It’s very warm today and I had to open my computer up. One of my hard drives has been giving me trouble for the last six weeks, eating pieces of my artwork, making stuff take a long time to do, making my computer do weird shit when it starts up. This hard drive is now gone, gone, gone; sits in the corner of my room, waiting to be disposed of thoughtfully, a dilapidated victim of my little ‘I know what I’m doing’ exercise.

LordMortis suggested that if I wasn’t going to attempt data recovery, I may as well destroy everything to see if the disk was physically corrupted. So onward ho, restlessly writing zeroes for 6 days and 6 nights before Windows Update decided to RESTART MY COMPUTER and the whole process had to begin again.

Hard drive has physical errors. It’s pretty old – I think it came with my DELL in 2006. Gosh, that brings back memories; started a new life, got a new computer. None of those memories live on that hardware anymore, of course, but here’s one less possession to reminisce over.

Bye bye, old friend. Serves you right for being crap now lol.

7 things that made me smile

It’s really good to be working from home today. Spent yesterday feeling feverish and a little bit sorry for myself. Thought it might be flu, but WebMD says it’s probably just a cold. Despite not feeling the best these last few days, a number of lovely things have made me smile. Seven (7, VII) of which I would like to share with you this evening.

Socks and stuff

This is my mate Martin. He just launched his first online business – SockemToMe.com.au

SockemToMe is a subscription-based sock shop for plain black business socks – you sign up and they send you a batch of socks every few months so you don’t have to make a trip to the shops for such boring, basic necessities. I’ve not received my socks yet, but considering Marty’s a bit of a hetero fancy lad, I’m betting they’ll be lovely quality.

He’s given me some sockmoney to share around, btw – $10 towards your order if you use the promo code sanlivesocks. Pretty sweet eh?
